Communication barriers in library reference services

This thesis focuses on the problem of issues and barriers in communication channels in the specific environment of the reference services of the National Library of the Czech Republic. The thesis introduces the basic terms and expressions which are further developed and put in context with the topic. The introduction part is therefore dedicated to the topic of communication barriers and reference services. The following part is my own research listing the reference workstations and utilizing the information about the problem provided by the local employees. The information was gathered during monitored interviews, questionnaires and email communication. The final part is an evaluation of the results coming from the gathered data. There are several suggestion on possible improvements included. Keywords libraries, reference services, social comunication, barriers of communication.
Reference services of Musical Department of Municipal Library of Prague

This bachelor's thesis seeks to analyze, describe, and evaluate the current state of reference services at the Music Department of the Municipal Library of Prague. Within the scope of this work, the author will perform: - A basic exploration of the subject matter in terms of the available literature and other information; the research of selected sources and gathering of relevant information "on site", at the MLP building, will result in a brief presentation of key terms and principles pertaining to reference services, with a particular focus on the established practice of such services where they are associated with public music libraries. - An analysis and detailed description of the reference services on offer at the Music Department of the MLP, which will be presented in the main part of the thesis (the role of these services within the overall context of the reference service system at the MLP as a whole, and of cooperating music libraries across the Czech Republic; the operational coverage of these services in terms of storage and work space, financial funding, and manpower; reference stocks and resources; typical users of these services and types of requests; records of requests and their assessment; etc.). Účelem zahraniční pracovní cesty do Würzburgu (Bavorsko, Německo) bylo setkání s Oborovými specialisty univerzitní knihovny Julius-Maximilians Univerzity ve Würzburgu, umístěné v areálu Campusu Am Hubland. Němečtí odborníci byli dotázáni na své zkušenosti a pojetí pozice Oborového specialisty (včetně náplně práce, typických komplikací a výzev, vývoje a změn této pozice v horizontu posledních 30let). Vedlejším cílem bylo zahájení obousměrné komunikace mezi oborovými specialisty, diskuze shodných a rozdílných parametrů pracovního prostředí (univerzitní vs. celostátní odborná knihovna; legislativa…), způsoby oslovení a udržení jednotlivých cílových skupin zákazníků a koncept spolupráce knihoven různého zaměření pro vyšší komfort zákazníků (viz německý model).
